Noob Ranger Help
Hi, I'm new to these forums and I was wondering if you guys could help me with some stuff about my Ranger/Elementalist. I bought Guild Wars Prophecies about a year or two ago and I haven't really played it until now. My R/E is currently level 11, but he has really bad skills and armor compared to my friends' rangers. What is a good skill set for my ranger?
Also, I want to use a Capture Signet to get soem elite skills... but I don't know what boss to use it on. Also, what do you think are some good elite ranger skills I should have? (I'm thinking that I would like Barrage).
And are there any armors/weapons/bowstrigns that I should consider using?

There isn't a whole lot for you to get from the elementalist line at lvl 11, unless you're maybe running a Conjure with an elemental bow. If prophecies is the only campaign you have, you're a bit limited as far as your skill set and definitely when it comes to elites.
Pack a couple of interrupts (distracting shot + savage shot will serve you well), troll unguent, rez sig, and go to town. For a bit more damage, run kindle arrows, conjure fire, and dual shot.
As far as elites, you're not going to find anything fantastic until you make it to the Southern Shiverpeaks, but there you can pick up Barrage, Punishing Shot, Poison Arrow, and others, which will let you play around a bit to decide what you like.
www.guildwiki.org is a great resource to find out about elite skills and where to get them.

Oh ok thanks! I was thinking of using Conjure Cold (or whatever its called) and combine it with an Icy bowstring. Or maybe conjure fire with a Flame bowstring?

I am shocked that you bought GW 2 years ago and haven't been addicted to it ever since!
As has been said, one of the few things the elementalist line can offer the ranger is Conjure Lightning/Frost/Flame. Generally Elementalist skills used by a primary ranger are too costly, considering your max energy and energy regeneration.
As for elites, yes, the first elite you can capture as you play through prophecies properly is Marksman's Wager from the Desert, which is quite a long way into the story. If you want a list of all Ranger elite skills you can find them here. A Ranger boss is identified by it's light-ish green aura, not to be confused with the darker green auras which depicts Necromancer bosses. In order to capture an elite skill you need to equip a signet of capture and stand near a dead boss and activate it. This brings up a window with a selection of skills you can capture...make sure you choose the elite skill (since you can cap normal skills also) and click capture.
Onto armor and weapons. The most useful insignia for my armor are Radiant (for energy), Survivor (for health), Scouts (if you use preparations) or Beastmaster's (if you use a pet)...Generally use the same insignia throughout your armor. The "extra armor vs Xxxx element" insignia are really too specific for PvE and are, on the whole, reasonably useless. Weapons.... This page talks about the different types of bows you can use. For general PvE play I find a Recurve bow to be one of the best. It's always useful to have a longbow or a flatbow for luring monsters though, since they have a greater range.
Have fun
